Some more tips for my beach portrait people.
Where you stand parents:
When it’s time to photograph the children and the grandparents or even just the children, its always a good idea to try and stand directly behind the photographer. As the children will often times look for you, a lot of photos will look like the kids are looking off into the distance, it would be better if they were looking more into the camera. As the photographer is often times doing what they can to capture the attention of the child, you the parent have the strongest influence. And you can help the little ones and the photographer by standing more directly behind the camera person, not too close but so that your children are looking more in the direction of the camera.
Timing is everything:
Sunset is our best time for taking beach portraits and that’s because of the fading light. With an over cast day you are looking at the best light, but maybe not the best background, all cloudy. If photographs are taken at 12 noon or 6pm, and the sun is bright and no shade, or cloud cover, you are going to get shadows. And Shadows are not our friend, unless you are looking for that kind of dramatic lighting. When photographing a group for a beach portrait, you might have the head of the person next to you casting a shadow on your face that will present an unflattering looking to you. So when its time to shoot, and you wonder why the photographer is stalling or doing something different, chances are the photographer is trying to work with the light.
In addition to getting that beach portrait on the dunes with the whole family, we also like to have a little fun and change things up a bit. You might have several families getting together for this portrait session and what we like to do is photograph the individual families as well as the whole group.
For example if you are three families plus the grandparents, we could want to take images of the whole group but afterwards we might like to get the grandparents with all the grandchildren. Or have all the children together, and get family one together on the dune, and snap some nice family shots and do the same for all the families there.
All extra photographs taken are taken at no additional charge to you. The one beach portrait session fee includes all that.
If you are a family of four, husband, wife and two children, feel free to bring a change of clothes. We would photograph the whole family together and then photograph mom with the two children, then dad with the kids. Of course we’d want to photograph the children by themselves, running around playing or chilling on the dunes. And then we’d want to get mom and dad together, because often times its either mom or dad behind the camera and you don’t always get a photograph of the two of you together. After that, you can switch out shirts or the whole wardrobe and try something different.
Photographing all the extra images, outfit changes and different configurations are totally FREE, all part of the beach portrait session we are out there to photograph.
After your b each portrait session, we process your images and get them online for you and your family to see, usually within 10 days time, but a lot of times sooner. For the extra families there were out on the beach with you on the day of your portrait, they can easily order right online from your gallery and have the prints and other photo merchandise shipped right to your door. You also have the opportunity to purchase the negatives from the day for only $150. The DVD negatives come with a copyright release allowing the use and printing of the images as you might like and where ever you might want to print them.
